Brittney Griner (toe) — Injured
Despite three games across the WNBA on Tuesday and three on Wednesday, the Mercury are the only team on a back-to-back. Both Allen and Sutton missed Tuesday's game against the Sun. Cunningham started in Allen's place, her first nod in the starting lineup this season, and responded with a line of six points, nine rebounds, three assists, and four stocks.
In Tuesday's game, the shorthanded Mercury were held to 47 points on 1-27 shooting from three-point range as they were absolutely stifled by a Connecticut defense that has been one of the best in the league to open the season. The 47 points were the fewest that any team has scored in a game since San Antonio scored 45 on August 19, 2015 against the Liberty. Additionally, no team that had attempted 20 or more threes in a game had ever made one or fewer in league history.
Confirmed Lineup: Courtney Vandersloot, Sabrina Ionescu, Betnijah Laney-Hamilton, Breanna Stewart, Jonquel Jones
Confirmed Lineup: Haley Jones, Allisha Gray, Rhyne Howard, Cheyenne Parker-Tyus, Tina Charles
Jordin Canada (hand) — Injured
Confirmed Lineup: Julie Vanloo, Ariel Atkins, Karlie Samuelson, Shakira Austin, Stefanie Dolson
Shakira Austin (hip) — In
Brittney Sykes (ankle) — Out
The Mystics are the WNBA's only winless team at 0-6 and will remain without Sykes for this contest against the Dream. It's hard to pin the team's struggles on her replacement in the starting lineup, as Vanloo has averaged 11.0 points and 5.3 assists in four starts. She's hit double figures in three consecutive games, including Saturday's 32-point blowout loss at Seattle.
Meanwhile, Austin missed Washington's last game due to a personal issue, but has since rejoined the team and practiced Tuesday. She should be good to play against Atlanta, but will likely remain on a minutes limit. She has not exceeded 21 minutes in any of her four appearances this season.
Confirmed Lineup: Kelsey Plum, Jackie Young, Alysha Clark, A'ja Wilson, Kiah Stokes
Chelsea Gray (leg) — Injured
Kierstan Bell (leg) — Injured
Confirmed Lineup: Courtney Williams, Kayla McBride, Bridget Carleton, Napheesa Collier, Alanna Smith
Diamond Miller (knee) — Injured
So far, so good for the Lynx without the injured Miller, as Minnesota moved to 2-0 without her in the lineup after defeating the Dream by a 92-79 final on Sunday. The Lynx are 4-1 on the season, trailing only the 6-0 Sun in the standings. Minnesota's +10.2 average point differential is tops in the WNBA.
