Washington Mystics News

Confirmed Lineup: Julie Vanloo, Ariel Atkins, Karlie Samuelson, Aaliyah Edwards, Stefanie Dolson

  • Brittney Sykes (foot) — Out

  • Shakira Austin (hip) — Out

Sykes will miss this game against the Sky with a left foot injury, once again joining Austin on the sidelines for the struggling Mystics. Coach Thibault said this is a new injury that occurred when Sykes stepped the wrong way, and that the injury is unfortunately more serious than the team initially thought. Sykes was spotted on crutches and she missed practice on Thursday. Thibault added that he thinks Sykes avoided a major injury and that he does not think it's a break, which is positive news. However, it's a frustrating blow for Sykes, who recently returned for one contest after missing nearly a month with a sprained left ankle. Julie Vanloo should step back into the starting lineup against Chicago and for however long Sykes is out, however, she is also dealing with an injury to her non-shooting thumb that has not kept her out of any games thus far.

Los Angeles Sparks News

Confirmed Lineup: Layshia Clarendon, Kia Nurse, Rickea Jackson, Dearica Hamby, Cameron Brink

  • Kia Nurse (knee) — Not on injury report

There was exciting news for the Sparks on Thursday with the signing of Hamby to a one-year extension through the 2025 season. A two-time All-Star and two-time Sixth Woman of the Year, Hamby is having a breakout campaign for the Sparks in her age-30 season, averaging 20.0 points through Los Angeles' first 12 outings. She's also averaging 11.4 rebounds per game; both totals are by far career-bests. Only three other qualifying players are averaging a double-double this season, all via points and rebounds: A'ja Wilson, Napheesa Collier, and Alyssa Thomas.
