2023 Fantasy Football Rankings - DeAndre Hopkins Update

May 28th 2023Hayden Winks

I'll reset my 2023 fantasy football rankings to start each month until we get to training camp (or if we get major news). Recently, we've had the DeAndre Hopkins release and the newly-reported Jimmy Garoppolo injury risk. All of that is accounted for here.

2023 Fantasy Football Rankings - Half PPR

"2022 Rank" is from my fantasy points over replacement metric using half PPR scoring. Rankings and ADP are from May 28th.

If you want to use my rankings on Underdog Fantasy, download the table below as a CSV. Then upload the CSV on the "Rankings" tab on Underdog Fantasy. If there's an error, you'll have to change the CSV column title from "ID" to "id". Make sure to use these rankings (not the ones from above), as these rankings have a 6-pick cap on how far ahead of ADP my rankings can be. Player's I'm fading are still ranked as low as I want, but I can only be so far ahead of ADP. We don't want to reach for the players we like.

As I discussed in this video, the two primary teams for DeAndre Hopkins are the Chiefs and the Bills. He probably wants to play for a contender, and these are the only two teams who were in contact with the Cardinals for a trade prior to his release. Both would require contract restructures with their top players, so other teams like the Patriots, Lions, Panthers, etc. could swoop in with a bigger offer. Keep in my Odell Beckham signed for $15M plus incentives. That's a starting point for Hopkins' contract, one that he probably wants for multiple years.

Players I'm higher on than ADP:

  • WR Cooper Kupp - 1st overall history, now with worse WR/DEF.

  • RB Austin Ekeler - 2nd overall history, now with better OC/OL.

  • RB Saquon Barkley - Was better than Lamb, Wilson, Amon-Ra in '22.

  • RB Nick Chubb - No Kareem Hunt opens up ceiling paths.

  • QB Patrick Mahomes - The best player I've ever seen.

  • QB Jalen Hurts - As safe as a pick can be in mid-to-late Round 2.

  • RB Josh Jacobs - 5th overall last year. Buying dip on Jimmy G FUD.

  • RB Rhamondre Stevenson - Has a slight path to the RB1 overall.

  • RB Breece Hall - Also has a slight path to RB1 overall later in 2023.

  • QB Justin Fields - Legitimate weapons with room to grow passing.

  • RB Joe Mixon - Round 1/2 value for years, now without Perine. BUY.

  • WR Chris Godwin - Second year removed from ACL. Mike Evans trade?

  • WR Jordan Addison - Adam Thielen was 2nd in routes last year.

  • WR Marquise Brown - Price inevitably jumps sans-Hopkins.

  • RB David Montgomery - Bellcow profile in top-10 offense. Upside.

  • RB Damien Harris - Better short-yardage rusher than Singletary. 10 TDs?

  • WR JuJu Smith-Schuster - Probably underrated at this point. Clear NE WR1.

  • WR Tyler Boyd - Contingent upside with two different WRs.

  • TE Dalton Schultz - History, contract, target competition all add up.

  • WR Nico Collins - Texans are very stackable in the double digits.

  • RB Devin Singletary - How about another Texan? What can go wrong?

  • WR Van Jefferson - Clear WR2 in a rebounding Rams passing offense.

  • WR Chase Claypool - They traded the 32nd overall pick for him.

  • RB Jerome Ford - Size, weak competition, and offense all check boxes.

  • RB Gus Edwards - Still paid well and efficient. Dobbins carries risk.

  • RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire - A 31yo and a 7th rounder are in front of him.

  • RB Trayveon Williams - Size, weak competition, and offense all check boxes.

Players I'm lower on than ADP:

  • WR Tyreek Hill - I just like Kupp, Ekeler, and Bijan more.

  • TE Travis Kelce - 34yo with Hopkins risk. I like the late TE prices.

  • WR Garrett Wilson - Rodgers risk. I like the RBs and Elite QBs more.

  • WR Jaylen Waddle - Tua risk. Also due for negative regression.

  • WR Chris Olave - WR25 per game in 2022, now going as the WR12.

  • WR DeVonta Smith - Finished 36th overall, but goes 21st overall now.

  • RB Jahmyr Gibbs - No red zone or short-yardage history in college.

  • TE T.J. Hockenson - Hard to be an elite TE. Unsure he is good enough.

  • RB J.K. Dobbins - Inconsistent due to injuries. BAL doesn't use RBs.

  • WR Zay Flowers - I like Bateman's profile better. Lamar called RB 'WR1'.

  • RB James Cook - Small, receiving backs don't really matter in Half PPR best ball.

  • RB Alvin Kamara - Suspension, competition, age curve all working against him.

  • RB Devon Achane - Outlier small with risk of RB additions later on.

  • WR Darnell Mooney - Bears spent 1st on D.J. Moore and 32nd overall on Chase.

  • TE Chigoziem Okonkwo - Doubt he's big enough for critical three-down work.

  • QB Kyler Murray - Halloween-or-later return on clearly tanking team.

  • RB Raheem Mostert - Small 30-year-old is a very easy fade.

  • WR Marvin Mims - Likely a 4-WR rotation on middling, balanced offense.

  • WR Wan'Dale Robinson - Tiny, slot only coming off November ACL tear.

  • WR Josh Downs - Have you baked in the hole in his chest from an AR missile?
