2023 NFL Team Needs and Key Free Agents

Mar 2nd 2023

Sosa Kremenjas

The 2023 NFL offseason is right around the corner and in this piece we're going to take a look at every team by division, highlighting their biggest needs heading into the offseason. Sosa also breaks down each team's key upcoming free agents.

Let's dive into it.

Some of the holes listed for each franchise include unproven starters, unfilled roster spots, subpar performers, and more. Restricted free agents and exclusive rights free agents weren't listed, only unrestricted free agents.

AFC North

Baltimore Ravens

Team needs: WR, LG, CB, RB3, EDGE4

Key free agents: LG Ben Powers, QB Lamar Jackson, CB Marcus Peters, WR Demarcus Robinson, EDGE Jason Pierre-Paul, EDGE Justin Houston, WR Sammy Watkins

Quarterback was not listed as a "need" for the Ravens but the story of their offseason certainly revolves around Lamar Jackson. The star player is technically a free agent, though the Ravens will certainly at least place the franchise tag on him and that means Jackson will either be traded or will return to the team for at least one more season. There seems to be some reluctance by the franchise to meet his asking price, but there is no reason to expect a divorce on the horizon. Could Jackson be traded at some point? Sure, but even then, the Ravens would need to pivot at the position and would have a boatload of assets to work and maneuver with.

Key Additions: WR Odell Beckham Jr., WR Nelson Agholor, DT Michael Pierce

Updated team needs: LG, RT depth, iDL depth, Boundary CB, Nickel CB

Cincinnati Bengals

Team needs: TE, RB2, LB, CB, S

Key free agents: S Jessie Bates III, S Vonn Bell, CB Eli Apple, LB Germaine Pratt, TE Hayden Hurst, RB Samaje Perine

The Bengals are a very complete roster with some important decisions to make in the upcoming free agency period, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. Both starting safeties are due to reach the market though the Bengals planned appropriately by drafting a safety in Dax Hill in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Cincinnati will need to make some cornerback adjustments, too, with Apple slated for free agency and fellow boundary starter Chidboe Awuzie recovering from a torn ACL.

Key Additions: LT Orlando Brown Jr., TE Irv Smith Jr., LB Germaine Pratt, S Nick Scott

Updated team needs: TE2, RB2, Boundary CB

Cleveland Browns

Team needs: WR, C, QB2, RB2, DT, DE, LB

Key free agents: C Ethan Pocic, QB Jacoby Brissett, DL Taven Bryan, EDGE Jadeveon Clowney, RB Kareem Hunt, LB Deion Jones, LB Anthony Walker Jr., RB D'Ernest Johnson

The Browns could use wide receiver help across from veteran Amari Cooper. While Donovan Peoples-Jones flashed some ability, he's likely a better fit for a WR3 role. Rookie David Bell and second-year speedster Anthony Schwartz struggled to make an impact and while Bell will undoubtedly get another opportunity to prove himself, the passing game needs to be spiced up by way of a receiver addition. Cleveland should also look to replace Hunt and Johnson with both slated to walk, especially considering how much the team leans on the running game.

Key Additions: WR Elijah Moore, DT Dalvin Tomlinson, LB Anthony Walker Jr., EDGE Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, WR Marquise Goodwin, C Ethan Pocic, S Juan Thornhill, TE Jordan Akins

Updated team needs: Potentially WR3, RB2, EDGE depth, LB

Pittsburgh Steelers

Team needs: LT, TE2, DT, LB, CB, S

Key free agents: CB Cameron Sutton, S Terrell Edmunds, LB Devin Bush, DT Larry Ogunjobi, LB Robert Spillane, S Damontae Kazee, QB Mason Rudolph

The Steelers must address the left side of their line if they want to extract the most out of quarterback Kenny Pickett and running back Najee Harris. LT Dan Moore Jr. ranked 68th in overall blocking grade according to PFF (min. 100 snaps) while allowing 39 pressures and seven sacks. Pittsburgh also has upcoming holes at linebacker as both Bush (61.9%) and Spillane (55.3%) played a good number of snaps at the position, though Bush has largely disappointed as a former first-round pick.

Key Additions: DT Larry Ogunjobi, LG Isaac Seumalo, CB Patrick Peterson, LB Elandon Roberts, S Damontae Kazee, S Keanu Neal, WR Allen Robinson

Updated team needs: LT, T depth, NT, EDGE depth, Nickel CB

AFC South

Houston Texans

Team needs: WR, QB, C, DE3, DT, LB, S

Key free agents: C Scott Quessenberry, WR Chris Moore, EDGE Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, WR Phillip Dorsett, TE Jordan Akins, CB Tavierre Thomas, RB Rex Burkhead

The story of this offseason is a simple one for the Texans — they're on a quest to find their franchise quarterback and that's where it all starts for this roster. Houston is likely to draft a quarterback with their highest first-round pick and could elect to trade up to the No. 1 pick if they feel Bryce Young is the best option. Additionally, wide receiver is a need with Brandin Cooks likely leaving the team via trade.

Key Additions: WR Robert Woods, TE Dalton Schultz, S Jimmie Ward, DT Sheldon Rankins, S Eric Murray, CB Tavierre Thomas, WR Noah Brown, RB Devin Singletary, LB Denzel Perryman, G Shaq Mason

Updated team needs: X WR, C, QB, EDGE Depth, LB

Indianapolis Colts

Team needs: Slot WR, QB, RG, DE, LB, CB depth, S

Key free agents: S Rodney McLeod, LB Bobby Okereke, WR Parris Campbell, EDGE Yannick Ngakoue, OL Matt Pryor, CB Brandon Facyson

Like the Texans, the Colts need to be all-in on finding their franchise quarterback. Veteran Matt Ryan turned out to be a failed experiment and will be inevitably released. The team may look to add firepower at wide receiver with Campbell slated for free agency and will need help on the defensive side of the ball with question marks at linebacker (RE: Shaquille Leonard health, etc) and in the secondary.

Key Additions: EDGE Samson Ebukam, DT Taven Bryan, EDGE Tyquan Lewis, K Matt Gay, WR Ashton Dulin, WR Isaiah McKenzie, TE Pharoah Brown, QB Gardner Minshew

Updated team needs: Potential LT upgrade, RG, LB, Boundary CB, S

Jacksonville Jaguars

Team needs: iOL depth, RT, TE, RB2, EDGE depth

Key free agents: RT Jawaan Taylor, TE Evan Engram, WR Marvin Jones, EDGE Arden Key, EDGE Dawuane Smoot, TE Dan Arnold, TE Chris Manhertz

As one of the more exciting teams this past season, the Jaguars don't have a ton of work to do on defense, though offensively the team will need to make some moves. Preferably, Jacksonville will find a way to sign Engram and Taylor to long-term deals, and the addition of Calvin Ridley post-suspension will fill the hole that Jones could open if he departs. The Jaguars will need to figure out the backup tight end situation, too, but are otherwise entering this offseason in good shape.

Key Additions: TE Evan Engram, iDL Roy Robertson-Harris, RB D'Ernest Johnson, RB JaMycal Hasty

Updated team needs: Potential LG upgrade, iOL depth, potential RT upgrade, TE2, Nickel CB

Tennessee Titans

Team needs: Boundary WR, LT, RG, RT, TE depth, RB2, LB, CB depth

Key free agents: LT Dennis Daley, RG Nate Davis, LB David Long Jr., S Andrew Adams, TE Geoff Swaim, TE Austin Hooper, S Josh Kalu, LB Dylan Cole, RB Dontrell Hilliard

Tennessee is worth circling as we enter the offseason since they have a multitude of potential directions available to them. The most likely avenue is a slight re-tooling around quarterback Ryan Tannehill, though the possibility that the team moves on from Tanny remains. With that being said, the Titans will need to replace recent cuts Robert Woods, Taylor Lewan, and Zach Cunningham, to start. The team could use extra help at backup running back with Hilliard set to hit the market, and at linebacker if Long is able to ultimately reach the market. In addition, the offensive line will need a lot of re-tooling, specifically at left tackle, right guard if Davis walks, and right tackle.

Key Additions: EDGE Arden Key, LB Azeez Al-Shaair, LT Andre Dillard, RG Daniel Brunskill, CB Sean Murphy-Bunting, WR Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, LG Aaron Brewer

Updated team needs: Boundary WR, C, RG, RT, TE2, potential QB upgrade, RB2, LB, boundary CB

AFC East

Buffalo Bills

Team needs: WR, LG, RB

Key free agents: LG Rodger Saffold, LB Tremaine Edmunds, S Jordan Poyer, RB Devin Singletary, EDGE Shaq Lawson, DT Jordan Phillips, WR Jamison Crowder

The Bills don't have many holes on their roster but they could have some big players depart in free agency in Edmunds and Poyer. Offensively, Buffalo will need to shore up the offensive line with at least one interior OL addition and could look to replace both starting guards. In the backfield, the team will need to find a complement to James Cook and potentially Nyheim Hines, though it remains to be seen what kind of investment they could make at the position after acquiring both players within the past year. Lastly, while the receiving corps does have plenty of talent, they could use another solidified star, though that won't be an easy task to accomplish.

Key Additions: S Jordan Poyer, RB Nyheim Hines, DT Jordan Phillips, WR Deonte Harty, EDGE Shaq Lawson, WR Trent Sherfield, S Taylor Rapp, RB Damien Harris, CB Dane Jackson, LG David Edwards, G Connor McGovern

Updated team needs: G depth, potential boundary WR upgrade, TE2, LB

Miami Dolphins

Team needs: Slot WR, OT depth, TE, RB, DL depth, LB, CB

Key free agents: RT Brandon Shell, LB Elandon Roberts, WR Trent Sherfield, RB Raheem Mostert, LT Greg Little, S Eric Rowe, RB Jeff Wilson Jr., TE Mike Gesicki, EDGE Melvin Ingram

Miami is fairly set heading into the offseason but the health of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will be the main point of discussion. Tagovailoa suffered multiple concussions during the season and the Dolphins may put more importance on the backup quarterback position for that reason. Outside of Tagovailoa, the offense will need a dependable WR3 after the Cedrick Wilson experiment didn't go as planned, as well as some tight end help with Gesicki likely on his way out and just Durham Smythe left. The backfield is wide open with both Mostert and Wilson set for free agency, but the chance that one of them is re-signed — if not both — is possible.

Key Additions: CB Jalen Ramsey, WR Chosen Anderson, WR Braxton Berrios, CB Nik Needham, TE Durham Smythe, QB Mike White, RB Raheem Mostert, EDGE Malik Reed, RB Jeff Wilson, LB David Long Jr.

Updated team needs: OT depth, TE, S

New England Patriots

Team needs: Boundary WR, Slot WR, RT, LB, FS

Key free agents: S Devin McCourty, CB Jonathan Jones, WR Jakobi Meyers, WR Nelson Agholor, RT Isaiah Wynn, S Jabrill Peppers, RB Damien Harris, RT Marcus Cannon

The Patriots' receiver corps should be circled heading into this offseason. With both Meyers and Agholor potentially on the way out, the team will need reinforcements both on the boundary and in the slot, with second-year speedster Tyquan Thornton moonlighting as an option to help fill some of those snaps. The right side of the offensive line could use some shoring up, as could the secondary, with multiple starters headed for the market. Meanwhile, running back Rhamondre Stevenson is locked into the unquestioned RB1 role heading into 2023.

Key Additions: TE Mike Gesicki, CB Jonathan Jones, CB Jalen Mills, WR JuJu Smith-Schuster, RT Riley Reiff, S Jabrill Peppers, LB Raekwon McMillan, RB James Robinson

Updated team needs: Established boundary WR, RT, LB, Nickel CB

New York Jets

Team needs: WR (?), QB, C, DT, EDGE (?), LB, S

Key free agents: LB Quincy Williams, C Connor McGovern, S Lamarcus Joyner, RG Nate Herbig, LB Kwon Alexander, DT Sheldon Rankins, LT/RT George Fant, DT Nathan Shepherd, DT Solomon Thomas, QB Joe Flacco, QB Mike White

Like some of the aforementioned teams on this list, the Jets have one job and basically one job only — go get a franchise quarterback. The team has been connected to both Aaron Rodgers and Derek Carr, either of which would be a massive upgrade over last year's quarterback options. Wide receiver could be in play with Corey Davis and Braxton Berrios likely being cap casualties and the uncertainty surrounding Elijah Moore's situation. Defensively, the team will need to find a way to replace Williams' snaps at linebacker and could have a hole open up at EDGE if Carl Lawson ends up being another cap casualty.

Key Additions: S Chuck Clark, DT Quinton Jefferson, WR Allen Lazard, WR Mecole Hardman, LB Quincy Williams, C Wes Schweitzer

Updated team needs: QB, C, LB3, Nickel CB upgrade

AFC West

Denver Broncos

Team needs: RB, LG, RT, TE2, LB, CB (?)

Key free agents: S Kareem Jackson, RT Cameron Fleming, LG Dalton Risner, LB Alex Singleton, DT Dre'Mont Jones, DT DeShawn William, RT Billy Turner, RB Latavius Murray

The Broncos are once again "all in" with the addition of Head Coach Sean Payton. Offensively, the team needs a lot of help schematically, but the roster doesn't have many glaring holes outside of the offensive line. Both the starting left guard and right tackle are slated for free agency, as are two of the backup tight ends. Denver could also use an addition at running back with Javonte Williams likely to miss multiple games in 2023. As of now, the team doesn't need another wide receiver or cornerback, though they could open up two roster holes at those spots if Jerry Jeudy is traded and K.J. Hamler and Ronald Darby are released.

Key Additions: RT Mike McGlinchey, RB Samaje Perine, LB Alex Singleton, iDL Zach Allen, LG Ben Powers, WR Marquez Callaway

Updated team needs: T depth, LB, Boundary CB

Kansas City Chiefs

Team needs: Boundary WR, LT, RT, DT x2, DE (?), S

Key free agents: LT Orlando Brown Jr., RT Andrew Wylie, S Juan Thornhill, WR JuJu Smith-Schuster, RB Jerick McKinnon, EDGE Carlos Dunlap, WR Justin Watson, DT Khalen Saunders, DT Derrick Nnadi, WR Mecole Hardman

Kansas City's offseason could go multiple ways depending on who they bring back from their upcoming list of free agents. On the offense, it appears they could franchise tag Brown once again, though they will need a new right tackle if Wylie walks. Smith-Schuster could also be an option to return, but the Chiefs do have Kadarius Toney and Skyy Moore in the chamber ready to inherit larger roles. Defensively, Kansas City could use a run-stuffing nose tackle with both their first and second-string players scheduled to hit the market.

Key Additions: DT Derrick Nnadi, T Jawaan Taylor, WR Richie James, WR Justin Watson, S Mike Edwards, TE Jody Fortson, LB Drue Tranquill, EDGE Charles Omenihu

Updated team needs: Boundary WR, RT, DT depth, S

Las Vegas Raiders

Team needs: Boundary WR, WR depth, RG, RT, TE2, QB, RB, DT, LB x2, CB x2, S

Key free agents: S Duron Harmon, WR Mack Hollins, RT Jermaine Eluemunor, LG Alex Bars, RB Josh Jacobs, TE Foster Moreau, CB Rock Ya-Sin, LB Denzel Perryman, EDGE Clelin Ferrell, DT Andrew Billings, QB Jarrett Stidham, LB Jayon Brown, CB Anthony Averett

Las Vegas has a laundry list of variables to solve entering this offseason, starting with the most important position at quarterback. David Carr was cut and the team will effectively need to find another franchise player for the position. At running back, Jacobs is likely to at least be franchise tagged, though he does want a long-term commitment. Also, the wide receiver position will need to be addressed if Hollins walks. On the flip, the defense will need additions on all three levels.

Key Additions: QB Jimmy Garoppolo, TE Austin Hooper, WR Jakobi Meyers, DT Jerry Tillery, RT Jermaine Elemunor, WR DeAndre Carter, EDGE Jordan Willis, LG Alex Bars

Updated team needs: LG, RG, TE, DT, LB, Boundary CB

Los Angeles Chargers

Team needs: LG, RT depth, DT, LB, EDGE depth, Nickel CB

Key free agents: LB Drue Tranquill, S Nasir Adderley, RT Trey Pipkins, EDGE Kyle Van Noy, WR DeAndre Carter, CB Bryce Callahan, DT Morgan Fox, TE Donald Parham

For the most part, the Chargers are a pretty solid roster across the board though their Super Bowl hopes will depend on their star players remaining healthy. Offensively, the team will need one if not two additions on the offensive line, though likely only one starter. Keenan Allen is a star player but there has been speculation that he could be on the move and if he is, the team will certainly need to replace him by adding an impact slot receiver.

Defensively, the Chargers will need to add a pass-rushing defensive tackle to replace Fox, while the second and third levels of the defense also have starters slated to reach the market in Tranquill and Callahan.

Key Additions: LB Eric Kendricks, DT Morgan Fox, WR Jalen Guyton, RT Trey Pipkins, TE Donald Parham

Updated team needs: Boundary WR upgrade, RT upgrade, potential RB, LB, EDGE depth, Nickel CB, S

NFC North

Chicago Bears

Team needs: X WR, WR Depth, RT, C, TE2, RB depth, EDGE, DT, LB x2, CB

Key free agents: LB Nicholas Morrow, C Sam Mustipher, RB David Montgomery, EDGE Al-Quadin Muhammad, RT Riley Reiff, WR Dante Pettis, DT Armon Watts, RG Michael Schofield, WR Byron Pringle, WR N'Keal Harry

The Bears need a lot of help and that shouldn't come as a surprise. They'll need to add a boundary "X" wide receiver to pair with Chase Claypool and Darnell Mooney, in addition to at least two new starters on the offensive line. On the defensive side, Chicago needs a ton of help on every level of the defense. The entire defensive line should be re-made and the Bears could very well spend their first-round pick on DT Jalen Carter or EDGE rusher Will Anderson to help improve the unit.

Key Additions: WR D.J. Moore, TE Robert Tonyan, LB Tremaine Edmunds, EDGE Rasheem Green, LB T.J. Edwards, RB D'Onta Foreman, DL DeMarcus Walker, RG Nate Davis

Updated team needs: LT, C, RT (?), EDGE x2, DT, Boundary CB, Nickel CB

Detroit Lions

Team needs: TE, RB2, DT, LB, CB, Nickel CB, S

Key free agents: LB Alex Anzalone, S DeShon Elliott, C Evan Brown, DT Isaiah Buggs, S Will Harris, CB Mike Hughes, DL John Cominsky, WR D.J. Chark, CB Amani Oruwariye, RB Jamaal Williams

Detroit doesn't have many glaring needs on the offensive side of the ball outside of the tight end position since trading T.J. Hockenson. On top of that, the running back room could use an addition to pair with D'Andre Swift if Williams doesn't return. Defensively, the Lions could use additions on the interior of the defensive line, one starting linebacker spot, and the cornerback and safety positions.

Key Additions: RG Graham Glasgow, EDGE Charles Harris, WR Marvin Jones, CB Emmanuel Moseley, CB Cameron Sutton, LB Alex Anzalone, RB David Montgomery, DT Isaiah Buggs, S Will Harris, S C.J. Gardner-Johnson, iDL John Cominsky

Updated team needs: TE, potential QB upgrade, DT depth, S

Green Bay Packers

Team needs: Slot WR, TE x2, DT x2, S

Key free agents: S Adrian Amos, WR Allen Lazard, DT Jarran Reed, TE Robert Tonyan, DT Dean Lowry, S Rudy Ford, TE Marcedes Lewis, WR Randall Cobb

Everything the Packers do is centered around Aaron Rodgers. Regardless of what happens, the Packers will be in a decent spot as they do have Jordan Love ready to replace Rodgers. At receiver, they will need to figure out what to do in the slot with both Lazard and Cobb slated to reach the market, though Lazard returning isn't out of the picture. Tight end is another position that's circled with two valuable players headed for free agency from that position group. The other side of the ball isn't in a bad spot but Green Bay could use an addition at defensive tackle alongside second-year player Devonte Wyatt and stud nose tackle Kenny Clark, as well as the safety spot with Amos slated to be an upcoming free agent and Darnell Savage being benched this past season.

Key Additions: S Rudy Ford, LT Yosh Nijman, LB Justin Hollins

Updated team needs: Stud WR, TE, S

Minnesota Vikings

Team needs: RG, RB2, DT, LB (?), Boundary CB, Nickel CB

Key free agents: CB Patrick Peterson, CB Chandon Sullivan, C Garrett Bradbury, DT Dalvin Tomlinson, CB Duke Shelley, RB Alexander Mattison, TE Irv Smith Jr.

The NFC North-champion Vikings are arguably the best roster in the division heading into the offseason. The offensive line will need an addition along the interior specifically at right guard, and the team will need to find a replacement at the backup running back spot if Mattison does walk. On defense, the team could need help at linebacker if Eric Kendricks is a cap casualty, hence the question mark in the team needs section. Cornerback is another position for Minnesota to focus on with three starters pegged to reach the market.

Key Additions: iDL Dean Lowry, LB Jordan Hicks, EDGE Marcus Davenport, C Garrett Bradbury, CB Byron Murphy, WR Brandon Powell, RB Alexander Mattison

Updated team needs: Boundary WR, RG, LB, Boundary CB x2

NFC South

Atlanta Falcons

Team needs: Boundary WR, Slot WR, LG, RT, QB, DT, EDGE x2, LB

Key free agents: RT Kaleb McGary, LB Rashaan Evans, EDGE Lorenzo Carter, WR Olamide Zaccheaus, LG Elijah Wilkinson

It might be easier to list the positions the Falcons don't need as opposed to the ones they do need. This team is ravaged and doesn't have much talent and that begins at the quarterback position with Desmond Ridder. Atlanta could see him as a potential option in the future after the rookie's late-season performance in 2022 or they could put together a trade package to target one of the veteran quarterbacks who could be available via trade or free agency. Of course, the offense will still need a ton of help, specifically at wide receiver where Drake London is the only mainstay and secure player.

Key Additions: EDGE Bud Dupree, S Jessie Bates III, TE Jonnu Smith, DT David Onyemata, CB Jeff Okudah, DT Calais Campbell, EDGE Lorenzo Carter, RT Kaleb McGary, QB Taylor Heinicke, CB Mike Hughes, WR Mack Hollins, WR Scott Miller, LB Kaden Elliss

Updated team needs: Slot WR, LG, QB, EDGE, LB, Boundary CB upgrade

Carolina Panthers

Team needs: WR, G depth, QB, RB, DT, DE depth, LB3,

Key free agents: C Bradley Bozeman, DT Matt Ioannidis, QB Sam Darnold, RB D'Onta Foreman

Surprise surprise, another team with a quarterback need. The Panthers re-did their entire coaching staff and need to find a signal-caller for Head Coach Frank Reich to work with. While Carolina would certainly like to re-sign Foreman, they may need to pivot and add a running back if unable to do so. The offense could also use a more dependable slot receiver and the defensive side of the ball is mostly solid though free-agent losses could open holes at DT and LB.

Key Additions: WR Adam Thielen, LB Shaq Thompson, WR D.J. Chark, S Vonn Bell, TE Ian Thomas, S Eric Rowe, TE Hayden Hurst, QB Andy Dalton, C Bradley Bozeman, DT Shy Tuttle, RB Miles Sanders, DT DeShawn Williams

Updated team needs: Established WR, G depth, QB, EDGE, LB3

New Orleans Saints

Team needs: Boundary WR (?), Slot WR, QB, RB2, DT x2, EDGE

Key free agents: QB Andy Dalton, DT David Onyemata, LB Kaden Elliss, DT Shy Tuttle, EDGE Marcus Davenport, CB Chris Harris Jr., WR Jarvis Landry, CB P.J. Williams, RB Mark Ingram

New Orleans has a need at quarterback and they've already been connected with free agent Derek Carr. If Carr chooses to head to New Orleans, he'd serve as an instant upgrade over their quarterback play from last season and would place himself in a nice spot with a lot of potential. Wide receiver is one position that could be quite different for the Saints next season with Landry slated to hit the market and Michael Thomas potentially being on the outs too, though he'd be moved via trade or release. Chris Olave is a great start and Rashid Shaheed flashed plenty of potential at that spot this past year, but the Saints will need more reliability and a down-to-down starter to replace Thomas and/or Landry if they leave.

Key Additions: QB Derek Carr, RB Jamaal Williams, S Johnathan Abram, DT Nathan Shepherd, TE Juwan Johnson

Updated team needs: WR3/4, EDGE depth, DT depth, LB3

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Team needs: LG, RG (?), QB, RB2 (?), DT x2, LB, EDGE depth, Boundary CB, FS, S

Key free agents: LB Lavonte David, CB Jamel Dean, S Mike Edwards, LG Nick Leverett, EDGE Anthony Nelson, DT Rakeem Nunez-Roches, DL William Gholston, S Logan Ryan, CB Sean Murphy-Bunting, DT Akiem Hicks, WR Julio Jones

Tom Brady's retirement was the first of what could be many stings to the Bucs' roster heading into the offseason. This team should be in fire-sale mode and that is why right guard is listed as a potential need if the Bucs decide to cut Shaq Mason after already cutting Leonard Fournette. Tampa Bay will need to find a quarterback — unless tanking — in addition to a ton of work on the defensive side of the ball. Vita Vea will need a new running partner, EDGE Shaq Barrett may not be fully ready for Week 1, and the secondary is set to suffer multiple losses both at cornerback and safety.

Key Additions: QB Baker Mayfield, LB Lavonte David, LG Matt Feiler, RB Chase Edmonds, S Ryan Neal, CB Jamel Dean, EDGE Anthony Nelson, DT Greg Gaines, G Nick Leverett

Updated team needs: LG, RG upgrade, RT, TE depth, QB, RB, EDGE, potential LB, Nickel CB

NFC East

Dallas Cowboys

Team needs: Boundary WR, TE (?), RB, Nose tackle, LB, Boundary CB, S depth

Key free agents: S Donovan Wilson, RG Connor McGovern, WR Noah Brown, TE Dalton Schultz, LB Leighton Vander Esch, CB Anthony Brown, LB Anthony Barr, RB Tony Pollard, EDGE Dante Fowler Jr., DT Johnathan Hankins, WR T.Y. Hilton

The Cowboys may look to brush up at the receiver position with Brown and Hilton slated for free agency and the lack of development from Jalen Tolbert in his rookie season. Running back could also be a bigger need than expected if Pollard isn't franchise tagged and/or if Ezekiel Elliott is cut, though both are likely to be in the picture in 2023. The other side of the ball doesn't present a ton of problems, either, as the Cowboys are likely to already have replacements for most players who could be departing. The biggest question marks for this team relate to Pollard and Schultz, with the tight end more likely to walk.

Key Additions: WR Brandin Cooks, CB Stephon Gilmore, EDGE Dante Fowler Jr., LB Leighton Vander Esch, RB Tony Pollard, RT Terence Steele, S Donovan Wilson

Updated team needs: T depth, TE, RB depth, Nickel CB depth

New York Giants

Team needs: Boundary WR, WR depth, LG, RB2, DL depth, LB x2, CB, SS

Key free agents: QB Daniel Jones, S Julian Love, C Jon Feliciano, RB Saquon Barkley, CB Fabian Moreau, WR Darius Slayton, EDGE Jihad Ward, LB Jaylon Smith, WR Richie James, WR Sterling Shepard

The Giants are one of the more fascinating teams entering the offseason with both Jones and Barkley scheduled to reach free agency. There is no question the team would like to retain both and might if they can lock one in long-term and franchise tag the other, but it remains to be seen if they can pull that off. Outside of them, New York will need at least one receiver added to the roster if not two pending the health of Wan'Dale Robinson.

Key Additions: TE Darren Waller, RB Saquon Barkley, QB Daniel Jones, CB Bobby McCain, WR Sterling Shepard, DT Rakeem Nunez-Roches, WR Jamison Crowder, WR Parris Campbell, EDGE Jihad Ward, WR Darius Slayton, LB Bobby Okereke, CB Amani Oruwariye, WR Isaiah Hodgins

Updated team needs: No. 1 WR, LG, C, EDGE depth, LB x2, CB

Philadelphia Eagles

Team needs: Slot WR depth, RG, QB2, RB, DT depth,

Key free agents: S Marcus Epps, CB James Bradberry, C Jason Kelce, LG Isaac Seumalo, LB T.J. Edwards, LB Kyzir White, S Chauncey Gardner-Johnson Jr., DT Fletcher Cox, DT Javon Hargrave, RB Miles Sanders, EDGE Brandon Graham, EDGE Robert Quinn, DT Linval Joseph, DT Ndamukong Suh, RB Boston Scott

It shouldn't be a surprise, but the NFL's runner-up doesn't have a ton of holes though the players that may reach the market are mostly high-quality talents. Offensively, the Eagles may have an opening at right guard and at running back, though two first-round draft picks could help offset that. Defensively, a great unit could take some big hits on all three levels of the defense. While that may be true, the Eagles do have promising players ready to inherit larger roles in Jordan Davis and Milton Williams on the defensive line and Nakobe Dean at linebacker. While certain veterans like Kelce and Graham are "technically" free agents, they're unlikely to go anywhere and are listed as such via cap manipulation by the front office. Both are expected to be back with the team this season barring retirement. Meanwhile, the secondary will need to be addressed after what is expected to be at least one — maybe two — key losses via free agency.

Key Additions: DT Fletcher Cox, C Jason Kelce, QB Marcus Mariota, EDGE Brandon Graham, CB James Bradberry, RB Rashaad Penny, LB Nicholas Morrow, S Terrell Edmunds, RB Boston Scott, DL Kentavius Street

Updated team needs: Slot WR upgrade, RB upgrade, G depth, TE2, LB, S upgrades

Washington Commanders

Team needs: C, RG, QB, TE (?), LB, S depth

Key free agents: RG Trai Turner, QB Taylor Heinicke, C Tyler Larsen, LB Cole Holcomb

Like some others, the Commanders do have a quarterback need and would be foolish to enter the season with just a former fifth-round pick in Sam Howell. The offensive line could use help in the interior and tight end may be a minor need if Logan Thomas is a cap casualty. The other side of the ball is a fairly well-built unit, particularly with Payne being retained via franchise tag. The stud defensive tackle will remain with one of the best units in the league for at least one more season.

Key Additions: QB Jacoby Brissett, DT Daron Payne, C Nick Gates, RT Andrew Wylie, C Tyler Larsen, CB Cameron Dantzler, LB Cody Barton

Updated team needs: C, QB upgrade, TE upgrade, LB depth, Nickel CB upgrade, S depth

NFC West

Arizona Cardinals

Team needs: X WR (?), LG, RG, RT, iDL, EDGE, LB, Boundary CB

Key free agents: RT Kelvin Beachum, RG Will Hernandez, C Billy Price, DT Zach Allen, CB Byron Murphy, LG Max Garcia, LB Ben Niemann, CB Antonio Hamilton, LG Justin Pugh

The Cardinals enter the 2023 season in a slight state of disarray as quarterback Kyler Murray recovers from a torn ACL and could miss a decent chunk of the season. Putting that aside, there has been speculation the team will move on from DeAndre Hopkins — adding another roster hole to an offense that already needs three new starters along the offensive line and a potential placeholder at quarterback. The other side of the ball isn't in as bad of shape though the Cardinals will need to replace Allen and Murphy — two starting-caliber talents — if they walk.

Key Additions: LB Kyzir White, RT Kelvin Beachum, RG Dennis Daley, WR Zach Pascal, RG Will Hernandez, WR Greg Dortch, CB Rashad Fenton

Updated team needs: Boundary WR, LG, C, backup QB, iDL, EDGE x2, CB x2, S (post-Budda Baker trade)

Los Angeles Rams

Team needs: LT, LG, RG depth, QB2, Power RB, DE, DT, LB, EDGE, Boundary CB, Slot CB (?)

Key free agents: S Nick Scott, S Taylor Rapp, RG Coleman Shelton, DT Greg Gaines, CB Troy Hill, DT A'Shawn Robinson, LG David Edwards

Just like the Cardinals, the Rams need a lot of help along the offensive line and could begin this season with two or three new starters across that unit. In addition, Los Angeles could use a dependable backup quarterback with Matthew Stafford's recent injury history. Defensively, the Rams need to find replacements on the defensive line and at linebacker, prioritize finding a stud EDGE rusher, and may open another hole at cornerback if Jalen Ramsey is traded.

Key Additions: RG Coleman Shelton, DT Marquise Copeland

Updated team needs: Boundary WR, LT upgrade, LG, C, EDGE x2, NT depth, LB x2, CB x2

San Francisco 49ers

Team needs: C, RT, EDGE x2, LB3, Boundary CB, FS, Nickel CB

Key free agents: C Jake Brendel, S Tashaun Gipson, RT Mike McGlinchey, QB Jimmy Garoppolo, EDGE Charles Omenihu, EDGE Samson Ebukam, S Jimmie Ward, RG Daniel Brunskill, LB Azeez Al-Shaair, CB Emmanuel Moseley, CB Jason Verrett

Even though the 49ers don't have a definitive starter at the most important position, they do have two legitimate options in Trey Lance and Brock Purdy, both of which could be healthy for Week 1. The 49ers will also need to find a new center and right tackle. The defensive side of the ball will need to be focused on with the secondary being the biggest question mark heading into next season. San Francisco may be in a position to replace two starting cornerback spots in addition to one starter at safety.

Although quarterback is technically a "need" for the time being, it won't remain one when Smith is likely franchise tagged. The Seahawks will look to secure their new-found starting quarterback to a long-term deal but will surely franchise tag him at the minimum. Seattle will need to find a dependable boundary/slot receiver unless they're willing to enter the season with just Dee Eskridge alongside D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.
